The Biggest Loss

A lot can be said of what Matt Cullen did as a player for the Penguins. He was the perfect fourth line center. He was a grinder. He chased after loose pucks. He got the offense jump started. He provided key goals at times when the Pens really needed them. He was an outstanding penalty killer. He played injured.

Chris Kunitz was a hard, clean hitter. He could maintain a net front presence. He chased after loose pucks. And, when opponents are focused on Malkin and/or Crosby, he scores. And sometimes those goals are significant like in Game 7 of the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals.

The biggest loss ? The Pens lost a number of players to free agency. But the biggest loss is the leadership that Cullen and Kunitz provided. You can replace them as players. But you can't replace leadership.

And that, my Pens Den fans, is the biggest loss.

Here's a great moment for you to enjoy.

  1. Pens really miss their leadership.

  2. Letting Kunitz go for the sake of a season still erks me with the longtime service and leadership as well as his play gave the Pens.No need for it.He deserved that respect.

  3. Cully was also a big loss. But he wanted to play at home.
